The First Problem

This is the first problem/challenge. Work together with your class and then when you have the answer, comment on this post and include the following:
  • The answer.
  • If applicable, the strategies you used to arrive at the answer.
Uncle Henry was driving to Halifax when he spotted a big green gorilla on the side of the road. He screeched to a stop, jumped out of his car. He saw the outline of a number on the gorilla. He couldn't quite see the number, but he knew it was a 4 digit number. And:
    1) He remembered seeing a number 1.

    2) In the hundred's place he remembers the number is 3 times the number in the thousand's place.

    3) He said the number in the one's place is 4 times the number in the ten's place.

    4) Finally he said the number 2 is sitting in the thousand's place.

What is the number?

Let The Games Begin!

Hello all!

I am a grade 6 teacher in Brandon, Manitoba, Canada. I am creating this blog to bring together grade 6 classes across the province, country, and maybe even world!

Every few days, my class and I will post a math challenge. We will race to see who can get the answer first! Don't worry, Grade 6BG won't know the answer when we post the questions! :)

The answer post should include the answer and the strategies used to arrive at the answer. Post a challenge back to make it more interesting! If you don't want to post your challenge, email it to me and I will post it for you! Comment on the problem post to share your answer!

We will start the challenge on November 1st, 2011!
